Product description

In the heart of Stockholm, at the intimate "Red's Place," Nisse Sandström, along with Horace Parlan and Red Mitchell, crafted a timeless homage to the legendary Lester Young. Recorded in January 1984 and released in 1986 under the Phontastic label, "Young Forever - a Tribute to Lester Young" is a captivating journey through the realms of vocal jazz and hard bop. This 51-minute album is a testament to Sandström's prowess as a vocalist, and his ability to pay tribute to one of jazz's most influential figures.

The album opens with "Lady Be Good," setting the stage for a series of enchanting performances that include "These Foolish Things," "Blue Lester," and "Polka Dots and Moon Beams." Each track is a masterclass in interpretation, showcasing Sandström's nuanced vocals and the exceptional musicianship of Parlan and Mitchell. The album also features a playful nod to the legendary Symphony Sid with "Jumpin' with Symphony Sid," and a tender moment with "I Want a Little Girl."

"Young Forever" is not just a tribute; it's a celebration of Lester Young's enduring influence. Sandström's vocals, coupled with Parlan's piano and Mitchell's bass, create a rich tapestry of sound that honors Young's legacy while adding a fresh perspective. The 2021 remastered version brings this classic album to a new generation, allowing them to experience the magic of Sandström's tribute to Lester Young. Whether you're a seasoned jazz enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is a delightful exploration of the timeless appeal of vocal jazz and hard bop.
