I own the 1983 European reissue, which seems to have gotten much lower scores compared to other pressings. After giving it a full listen, I'm a bit puzzled by that. It sounds pretty good to me, no apparent problems with the audio quality.
For tracks like "Young Americans" and "Fame" alone, you're guaranteed a top-notch David Bowie album. It's pretty bold, though. Not much nuance. It's like every noise hits you at once during Bowie's "plastic soul" era. Quite a bold and rough album. But there's nothing else quite like it in Bowie's collection.
Super flat, really clean and awesome sound quality. When I first played this, there were skips all over, mostly on Side B. But every time after that, it's been perfect, so be careful and don't rush to sell it if it skips at first.
I stumbled upon this edition at a nearby second-hand store. I already own the original pressing, but I adore all the new re-releases and couldn't resist this special gold version. My copy is flawless and noise-free, and just like the other Bowie reissues, it sounds amazing.
This is an absolutly fantastic pressing, it sounds incredable on my Thorens TD 160B Mk II paired with the SME III and Shure cartridge.
