  • Jim Hall's Groovy Brazilian Quartet

    3 out of 5 stars
    metoLJ_September 5, 2024United States🇺🇸

Confessed Jim Hall enthusiast here, I'll snatch up any album by Jim Hall, or one featuring him as a sideman, without hesitation. I hadn't come across this one previously, and it's a truly delightful quartet album with a Brazilian flair, recorded in '71, with special guest Airto. The arrangements, which prominently feature drums and percussion, add a genuine touch to the session. Some truly groovy electric piano creates some compelling, forward-moving rhythms. Standout tracks include "Simple Samba", "Careful", and "I Should Care". The recording is crisp and masterfully mixed. A truly enjoyable listen. 3.5 stars.
