Product description

Arctic Monkeys' debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, is a seminal release that catapulted the band to stardom. Released on 29 January 2006 via Domino Recording Co, this 41-minute masterpiece is a genre-bending blend of indie and garage rock. The tracklist is a testament to the band's storytelling prowess, with songs like 'The View From The Afternoon', 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor', and 'Mardy Bum' showcasing their unique ability to craft relatable, witty, and poignant lyrics.

From the opening notes of 'The View From The Afternoon' to the closing strains of 'A Certain Romance', Arctic Monkeys take listeners on a sonic journey through the highs and lows of British suburban life. With their distinctive Sheffield twang and poetic observations, the band paints a vivid picture of youth culture, love, and disillusionment. The album's raw energy, coupled with its clever wordplay and infectious melodies, has made it a beloved classic among fans of indie and garage rock. Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not is a must-listen for anyone looking to experience the Arctic Monkeys' early magic and understand why they remain one of the most acclaimed and influential bands of their generation.

This is a 2025 Reissue Repress released as a LP.

  • Vinyl Audio and Book Delight

    5 out of 5 stars
    niwheet.rjoqokieNovember 29, 2025United States🇺🇸

The audio is amazing! I really like the smoky look of the vinyl, and the photo book that comes with it is top-notch, super glossy!

  • Impressive Debut Album, Minor Audio Flaws

    4 out of 5 stars
    Iqtufceuc42November 10, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

If I could, I'd give this 4.5 stars. It's an amazing first album, and considering these were just kids, aged 18-20 when they recorded it, the music's maturity and the cleverness of the lyrics are truly impressive for their age. The vinyl sounds great and is definitely worth buying. There's a bit of compression and some sibilance/distortion in the vocals. Like others have said, it'd be nice to have a 45RPM version or a repress spread over 3 or 4 sides. This album is that good... maybe for its 20th anniversary in 2026?

  • VMP's Best Pressing Yet

    4 out of 5 stars
    OJ3QNovember 2, 2025United States🇺🇸

As usual, VMP has delivered an excellent pressing. However, I'm noticing some harshness on side B that's keeping me from giving it a perfect score. Still, it's undoubtedly the best version of this album available.

  • Quality, Minor Clicks

    5 out of 5 stars
    ceefhdob97October 28, 2025United States🇺🇸

Excellent quality, no problems here. A few tiny clicks on the second song, but it's really no big deal!

  • Young Band's Explosive Energy

    5 out of 5 stars
    FaxzagSeptember 17, 2025France🇫🇷

Wow, such a young band at that time! (The lead singer was around 17 years old, I think...) Their energy is incredible, a typically British efficiency that rocks! 💥
