Product description

Vincent Persichetti's "Symphony No. 5/Piano Concerto" is a captivating classical album released in 1990 under the New World Records label. This album showcases the brilliance of the renowned American composer, pianist, and educator, Vincent Persichetti, who was born in Philadelphia in 1915. The album features the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by the esteemed Riccardo Muti, delivering a powerful performance of Persichetti's works.

The album opens with the Symphony No. 5, a piece composed specifically for strings, and it sets the stage for a rich and immersive listening experience. The symphony is followed by the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, a three-movement piece that highlights the virtuosity of both the soloist and the orchestra. The concerto's movements, titled "Allegro non troppo," "Andante sostenuto," and "Allegro vivace," offer a dynamic range of emotions and musical expressions.

Recorded in 1989 and 1990, the album captures the essence of Persichetti's compositional style, which is known for its intricate structures and innovative use of musical forms. The Symphony No. 5 and the Piano Concerto are both testament to Persichetti's ability to create compelling and engaging works that resonate with audiences. With a total duration of 52 minutes, this album is a must-listen for fans of classical music and those looking to explore the works of a master composer.

Vincent Persichetti, born on June 6, 1915, in Philadelphia, was a celebrated American composer, pianist, and educator whose works have left an indelible mark on 20th-century music. Renowned for his succinct polyphonic style, characterized by interwoven melodic lines, forceful rhythms, and diatonic melodies, Persichetti's compositions span a wide range of genres, including notable pieces for piano and wind band. A prolific artist, he created over 120 works, many of which are staples in educational settings. Persichetti's influence extended beyond his compositions; he was a revered teacher at the Juilliard School in New York, shaping the next generation of musicians.
