Each sonata is a masterclass in composition, showcasing Persichetti's unique ability to blend classical forms with modern sensibilities.

The album begins with the Harpsichord Sonata No. 1, Op. 52, a piece that sets the tone for the rest of the collection with its elegant and dynamic movements. The Harpsichord Sonata No. 3, Op. 149, follows, offering a more introspective and lyrical experience. In addition to the sonatas, the album also includes the Serenade No. 15, Op. 161, a five-movement work that adds a touch of serenity and grace to the collection. Each piece is performed with precision and passion by Christopher D. Lewis, a renowned harpsichordist known for his interpretations of contemporary and classical repertoire.

About Vincent Persichetti

Vincent Persichetti, born on June 6, 1915, in Philadelphia, was a celebrated American composer, pianist, and educator whose works have left an indelible mark on 20th-century music. Renowned for his succinct polyphonic style, characterized by interwoven melodic lines, forceful rhythms, and diatonic melodies, Persichetti's compositions span a wide range of genres, including notable pieces for piano and wind band. A prolific artist, he created over 120 works, many of which are staples in educational settings. Persichetti's influence extended beyond his compositions; he was a revered teacher at the Juilliard School in New York, shaping the next generation of musicians. His virtuoso skills as a pianist are evident in his 12 sonatas and three concertos, which are considered among the most significant American works for the instrument.
