Product description

Michel Portal's "Turbulence," released in 1987 under the Le Chant du Monde label, is a captivating fusion of French jazz, free jazz, and chamber music that showcases Portal's mastery of the bandonéon and his innovative approach to composition. This album is a testament to Portal's unique ability to blend diverse musical influences, ranging from the avant-garde to jazz fusion, creating a sound that is both intellectually stimulating and deeply engaging.

With a runtime of just over 41 minutes, "Turbulence" features six tracks, each offering a distinct exploration of Portal's musical vision. The album opens with "Mozambic," setting the tone for the eclectic journey that follows. Tracks like "Pastor" and "Djam’s" highlight Portal's virtuosic playing and his knack for creating intricate, layered soundscapes. "Métis" and "Turbulence" delve into more experimental territories, showcasing the album's avant-garde influences. The album closes with "Basta," a piece that encapsulates the essence of Portal's genre-defying style.

"Turbulence" has been praised for its unusual tones, odd sounds, and weird shapes, making it a standout in Portal's discography. The album's reissue in 2010 further cemented its status as a classic, attracting a new generation of listeners. Whether you're a longtime fan of Michel Portal or a newcomer to his music, "Turbulence" offers a rich and rewarding listening experience that highlights the artist's extraordinary talent and creativity.

This is a 1987 Reissue released as a LP.

I Picked up a second hand Copy (Near mint condition). This version has much better sound quality than the CD. M. Portal is backed by some incredibly talented French Jazz musicians. I totally agree with the previous review, this LP is fantastic. As always, for those who love contemporary Jazz, don't miss out. Patrick.
