Recently, I stumbled upon a sealed version at a nearby store. The gatefold packaging is stunning, featuring photos, entertaining liner notes penned by Steve Earle, lyrics for each track, and protective inner sleeves for the records. The vinyl delivers excellent sound quality, with impressive attention to the musical details and a cozy, engaging soundstage. My copy plays perfectly, with no noticeable surface noise. It's evident that Earle poured his heart into this project, creating a wonderful homage to Townes Van Zandt.
The vinyl sounds fantastic for being clear. It's super quiet and even. Awesome nod to Townes.
Based on what I can see, these two appear to be exactly the same. Should we combine them?
Out there, you'll find plenty of Townes van Zandt tribute albums that vary in how good they are. Steve Earle, being a pal of Townes', does a fantastic job honoring his work on this record. The 2 CD set comes with an additional disc featuring stripped-down takes, just Steve and his guitar, and honestly, many of these outshine the main album tracks. Snag the 2 disc version if you can. It's all top-notch material.
