The audio quality is fantastic! It genuinely seemed like i was experiencing this album for the very first time. Strongly suggest it!
This pressing is absolutely dreadful. From what I've heard, it seems like they just took the CD master and used that for the lacquer cut, which is why it's so quiet. Back then, nobody at the big record labels gave a hoot about vinyl quality—most didn't even bother pressing vinyl in the late 90’s. This is likely one of the worst times for vinyl production, and it dragged on into the early 2000’s. This release made me steer clear of original pressings from that time. Most recordings after 2000 were mastered digitally, if not recorded entirely digitally, so there's no real sound quality advantage to getting an original pressing from that era. And ironically, they're quite rare due to low production numbers, making them quite pricey for what's often a very disappointing listening experience.
Amazing, that's the only word I can think of, really nice split between all the parts!
This one's a letdown in the sound department, quite muffled. If you're after the original '99 version, go for the superior EU MPO pressing. Not what I'd anticipate from Gateway Mastering. It's like night and day when you compare it to the stellar sound of the original US The Colour and the Shape (that one's got the Gateway LC in the deadwax, too).
This album is utterly breathtaking and exceeds expectations in every way. If you don't own it yet, go ahead and purchase it without any doubt.
