Possibly the most terrible audio on a Foo Fighters record
This album's got way too much echo. Pop music makers ain't the best fit for rock groups.
Great vinyl, nice and peaceful, no cleaning needed, And of course sounds amazing!
Foo Fighters' Concrete and Gold is an album where, as the band puts it, "hard rock extremes and pop influences clash." It's meant to mirror the future of the U.S., with the 2016 Election as its backdrop. They brought in pop producer Greg Kurstin, who'd never tackled a rock album before. Initially, Grohl aimed to record it live at the Hollywood Bowl for 20,000 fans, but after finding out PJ Harvey had already done that, he dropped the idea. It's been said that Concrete and Gold is the Foo Fighters attempting not to sound like themselves, and for the most part, that's accurate. The album feels disjointed compared to their previous works, almost like an afterthought. It's arguably one of their weaker efforts, whether that's due to Grohl's break after his injury, the world's state, or just a lack of interest. It's a forgettable collection of ideas that might've worked better as B-sides or not at all. Sunday Rain, featuring Paul McCartney and the late Taylor Hawkins, is a highlight, as are Run and, to some degree, Sky. But apart from those, it's not an album you'll revisit often. Sonically, it's just as uninspiring. The mix is flat, lacks punch, and feels bland. It's clean, but something's missing, much like the songs themselves.
This specific record sounds incredibly flat on my system. It's like there's no dimension to the music at all. It's rather disappointing, but since I grabbed it on sale at Target for half off, I didn't lose much. Whoever mastered this version really dropped the ball.
