While it's a bummer that Cloud of Unknowing and The Glowing Man got separated, I believe they were split at the most suitable spots. Aside from that, the albums sound pretty good overall.
I must say, this pressing has left me absolutely astounded. It genuinely stands among the finest mastered recordings ever. The music itself is phenomenal, and the technical details like production and mastering are impeccable. Sure, there's been some talk about the last track on the album being truncated, and that's indeed the case with my copy, but apart from that, it's a flawless pressing.
The audio was alright, but there was a bad scratch towards the end of side C that was already there when I took it out of the sleeve.
I'm not entirely certain, but I'm pretty confident I've got a 2025 pressing (grabbed it at the Chicago show on September 30th), and it sounds absolutely incredible. There's some very light ring wear, but hey, what can you do? It's super quiet with amazing dynamics, and I'm over the moon to finally have this MASTERPIECE in my collection. (I already had the CD+DVD, but this is a grail for me.)
I genuinely wish they'd eventually get around to re-releasing the later Swans albums on vinyl with proper edits, as the current ones are truly awful. The way they suddenly cut off the climax on the final track is so unsatisfying, it makes you question why you bothered spending two hours flipping records when you could've just listened to the whole album smoothly on CD or digital. If they're aiming for a premium release, they should consider either spreading the runtime across 3 or 4 LPs, or just making the sides longer. With proper mastering, it would be a significant upgrade. They could also package them in a box set, as the triple gatefolds are quite a hassle to remove the records from. I'm confident fans would happily pay extra for definitive vinyl versions of these late-period (Seer through Birthing) Swans albums. In time, they'll be recognized as timeless masterpieces and certainly warrant proper, uncut editions.
