This album is a great illustration of music that feels strangely recognizable yet captivating simultaneously. Throughout the record, a woman recites different excerpts from Kafka's "The Blue Octavo Notebooks." Though it's easy to label this album as a concept album due to this narrative uniqueness, Richter is more focused on reaching the peak of effective Steve Reich and Philip Glass classical works. This isn't a criticism; rather, Richter is more drawn to their dramatic elements, which he masterfully incorporates with his signature electronic touches (possibly influenced by his past production work with Roni Size or Future Sound of London), instead of mimicking the typical deconstruction of Reich and Glass's compositions. Thanks to this traditional approach, "The Blue Notebooks" offers something for every music enthusiast: electronic, classical, or rock-influenced music akin to Sigur Ros. Strongly recommended.
My copy is flawless, the sound is top-notch. The music is fantastic, aside from side D which feels out of place with the rest.
I've got the 2015 edition and the newer one from 2025. I notice this black edition is more subdued compared to the crystal clear one, which seems to highlight flaws when you crank up the volume. In my opinion, for collectors, you ought to have both versions because I've got the autographed one too.
Stunning records! Both arrived in perfect condition, playing flawlessly without any surface noise, pops, or clicks. The music sounds rich and dynamic, each track a joy to listen to. This is definitely going on my top releases of the year list!
Vinyl sounds fantastic! Really enjoying the audio. Plus, the misprint on the inside of the cover for Side C is a nice touch.
