My version has quite noticeable static after ultrasonic cleaning. Apart from that, it's really good.
I picked this up fresh from a local record shop, not a huge Jay-Z fan but a massive Hip-Hop enthusiast, and I figured the black album should be part of my collection. I was really let down by the gatefold paper's quality... super flimsy and not sturdy, the color's already chipping on some corners even though I always try to handle it carefully, it's not like it's a baby, but I'm not using it to prop open doors either, you get the idea. The sleeves are missing that smooth plastic lining inside and the vinyls are thin with scratches already. None of this would matter if the sound was good but sadly it's all squashed and flat, feels like there's no difference between this and a high-quality mp3 of the same album... I'm not a vinyl expert but I can definitely say this is one of the worst sounding records I have. I guess it was mastered and pressed during a time when CDs were the new thing and nobody really cared about making good vinyls, also in the thanks section Jay writes something like "thanks to all the people who made this CD possible..." it kind of gives you a clue on how much vinyls were valued back then if he's only mentioning CDs, perhaps. I'm going to keep it just as a reminder that not all records sound great and that I should always check Discogs first!
