Product description

"The Alternate Blues" is a captivating jazz album released in 1982 by the legendary trumpeter Clark Terry, featuring an all-star lineup that includes Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy Gillespie, and Oscar Peterson. This album is a testament to the power of collaboration and the richness of jazz music, blending hard bop, latin jazz, bebop, cool jazz, and big band elements into a cohesive and dynamic whole.

The album opens with a series of alternate takes, showcasing the improvisational genius of the musicians. "Alternate One," "Alternate Two," "Alternate Three," and "Alternate Four" offer a glimpse into the creative process, with each track revealing the unique perspectives and styles of the artists involved. The album then shifts gears with "Wrap Up Your Troubles In Dreams," a soulful and introspective piece that highlights the lyrical qualities of Clark Terry's trumpet playing. The album concludes with a stunning "Ballad Medley," featuring "Here's That Rainy Day," "Gypsy," and "If I Should Lose You," which showcases the depth and range of the musicians' talents.

mcintosh6600: Couldn't agree more. Plus, a decent phono (maybe tube?) preamp would be great. I'm playing this vinyl as we speak. The audio quality is absolutely stunning, even with headphones.

    rmutsicc1720January 12, 2025United States🇺🇸

Having had this album since its release back in '82, I'm finally experiencing it as it should be, all thanks to picking up a MC cartridge after years of tinkering with audio equipment. It's absolutely stunning, provided you've got the right setup.

  • AP Redone Album Thrills

    5 out of 5 stars
    bjoqlil03May 31, 2024United States🇺🇸

This album is fantastic, and I've got a pretty decent first pressing that sounds amazing. The AP version is absolutely worth it - it's incredibly dynamic, more detailed and atmospheric without being overly bright, and the tonal balance is perfect. One of the best AP releases I've come across, I'm thrilled they re-done this super fun album featuring three incredible artists, backed by legends.

Incredible legends jamming together, what a lineup! Doug Sax absolutely crushed it with the pressing and mastering, perfect 10/10. Music into words, it's just that good.
