Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.
The audio quality is absolutely fantastic. It's warm, expansive, intricate, and full of life. It's amazing how affordable these Japanese ABBA records are, especially in Mint condition. They're definitely worth more than what they're being sold for. As usual with Japanese vinyl, the surface is incredibly quiet. I'll be posting the same review for the Discomate versions since they're identical in sound and quality.
ABBA: The Album.————————————ABBA, a Swedish pop band from Stockholm, was established in 1972 by Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The group's name is an acronym derived from their first names. They achieved massive global success, dominating the charts from 1974 to 1983.————————————ABBA: The Album (also referred to as The Album) is the fifth studio album by ABBA. It was first released in Scandinavia on 12 December 1977 via Polar Music. However, due to overwhelming pre-orders, the UK pressing plants couldn't produce enough copies before Christmas 1977, so it was released in the UK in January 1978. The album was launched alongside ABBA: The Movie, featuring several songs from the film.————————————Side 11."Eagle" 5:512."Take a Chance on Me" 4:053."One Man, One Woman" 4:334."The Name of the Game" 4:54Side 21."Move On" 4:422."Hole in Your Soul" 3:41————————————Since this album was released with ABBA: The Movie, it's no surprise that it includes some fantastic tracks like "The Name of the Game" and "Take a Chance on Me". But, the film's release means that many of these songs are already familiar from it. Apart from that, the album showcases some excellent 70s ABBA hits, and the production is top-notch! ABBA's music style is truly distinctive, evoking a sense of nostalgia for many. However, I can't rate this album higher because it only has six songs, and for that reason, I wouldn't choose it over some of the other ABBA albums in my collection.————————————Album Score: 6/10
Super uncommon Balkanton release on audio cassette, ABBA – The Album!
With this version, they finally nailed the remastering. It's a tad bass-heavy, but a quick EQ adjustment sorts it out; just lower the bass a couple of clicks and boost the treble a touch, and it's perfect. Hands down, this is the top pressing of this release. Don't even consider the original UK Epic, it's a disaster !
The Album" has never sounded so clear and distortion-free on vinyl. Most pressings out there have serious issues on side one. But this Back2Black deluxe repress is the ultimate choice.
