Product description

"Spark!" is a captivating album released in 2007 by the renowned duo Marty Ehrlich and Myra Melford. This musical collaboration brings together the virtuosic talents of Ehrlich on saxophone and Melford on piano, two of the most refined musicians to emerge from the Downtown New York scene of the '80s and '90s. The album is a blend of free jazz and avant-garde genres, offering a unique and dynamic listening experience.

The album features nine tracks, including original compositions by Ehrlich and Melford, as well as pieces by Andrew Hill and Robin Holcomb. The opening track, "Hymn (Pt 1)," immediately draws the listener in with its bluesy joy, setting the tone for the rest of the album. Other notable tracks include "A Generation Comes and a Generation Goes," "For Leroy," and "Images of Time," each showcasing the duo's rugged lyricism and technical prowess.

"Spark!" is a testament to the creative synergy between Ehrlich and Melford, offering a rich tapestry of sounds that range from introspective to exhilarating. The album's duration of 51 minutes provides a satisfying journey through the duo's innovative approach to jazz, making it a standout release in their discography. Whether you're a longtime fan of free jazz or a newcomer to the genre, "Spark!" offers a compelling exploration of the boundless possibilities of improvisation and composition.
