This album, recorded at the legendary Van Gelder Studios and engineered by Rudy Van Gelder, showcases Desmond's mastery of cool jazz and bossa nova, seamlessly blending these genres with Brazilian jazz influences. The collaboration with guitarist Gábor Szabó adds a unique and enchanting dimension to the album, making it a standout in Desmond's discography.

"Skylark" features nine tracks, including the title song and other notable pieces like "Take Ten - 1973 Version" and "Romance De Amor." The album's duration of 53 minutes offers a rich and immersive listening experience, with each track meticulously arranged and supervised by Don Sebesky. Fantastic. The music is incredibly enjoyable (I'm a huge fan of Gabor Szabo's guitar), clear, crisp sound, and the pressing is super quiet. It's a steal at this price. Highly, highly recommended.

About Paul Desmond

Paul Desmond, born Paul Emil Breitenfeld in San Francisco, was a pioneering American jazz alto saxophonist and composer, renowned for his distinctive, cool jazz sound. As a member of the Dave Brubeck Quartet from 1951 to 1967, Desmond's elegant and airy playing style captivated audiences worldwide. His most famous composition, "Take Five," remains the best-selling jazz single of all time, showcasing his genius for melodic improvisation. Desmond's ambition was to create a sound as refined as a dry martini, and his shimmering, recognizable tone on the alto saxophone continues to influence jazz musicians today. With a career spanning the 1950s and 1960s, Desmond's work in cool jazz, bossa nova, and Brazilian jazz has left an indelible mark on the music world.
