Feels a bit thin, like the tracks are still being worked on, so nothing really stands out, but it's alright
Finally got to check this one out and I must say, I was pretty excited. It's not a terrible pressing, but it is a bit on the soft side. There's a small scuff on the first track of side 2 that causes a few tiny pops, but it's not a big deal. The music itself is a solid 5/5. The pressing is about a 3/5, so overall, I'd give it a 4/5.
Simply crank up the volume. Those who are unhappy with the loudness should just turn it up. Both this track and 'Friday Afternoon' require a bit more volume but truly stand out once you do. They're expertly mastered and pressed. If you're a fan of these albums, it's an obvious choice.
Sure thing, it's pretty quiet. You've got all this tunes packed onto a single disc, with just two sides to work with. There's no way to crank up the master any louder while keeping all that audio on each side and still maintain the dynamics, you know? It's just a limitation of the format. I guess it should've been a double LP for the best sound quality, but that might've easily made the price jump to $40 or more. Grab yourself a decent stereo system, turn up your preamp, and enjoy only flipping the record over once.
I know this is a lower cut, it is what it is. I did some A/B comparisons with the 90's CD release (matching the levels) and I must say, I'm not blown away or seeing much of an upgrade over the CD version. Truth be told, I think the CD sounds superior. I'm a big fan of MMW's 90's work and I'll support the band when I can, but I feel these re-releases don't do them justice.
