Product description

Dive into the soulful world of St. Paul & The Broken Bones with their 2016 release, "Sea of Noise." This retro soul album is a captivating journey through a rich tapestry of sounds that hail back to the golden age of soul music. With a runtime of 47 minutes, the album is a concise yet powerful collection of tracks that showcase the band's raw talent and emotional depth.

From the hauntingly beautiful "Crumbling Light Posts, Pt. 1" to the triumphant closer "Crumbling Light Posts, Pt. 3," the album is a cohesive journey through love, loss, and redemption. Standout tracks like "Flow with It (You Got Me Feeling Like)" and "Burning Rome" highlight the band's ability to blend vintage soul with modern sensibilities, creating a sound that is both timeless and fresh.

St. Paul & The Broken Bones' powerful vocals and the band's tight instrumentation shine throughout the album, making "Sea of Noise" a standout release in the retro soul genre. Whether you're a longtime fan of the genre or a newcomer looking to explore its depths, this album is sure to leave a lasting impression.

This is a 2025 Limited Edition Limited Blue Smoke Edition released as a LP.

  • Electric, Engaging, and Thought-Provoking

I'm sharing my thoughts after listening to this record on my custom U-Turn Orbit turntable, which has a built-in Pluto amp and an Ortofon 2M Red stylus, paired with Edifier R2000db speakers. I'm no audiophile, but I'm working on it! The record's quality is pretty standard. Newer releases often don't match the quality of audiophile jazz reissues, like those from Blue Note's 80th anniversary series. (I mean, that's just common knowledge, right?) Compared to similar records, this one's about average. The most noticeable pops happened at the end of "Brain Matter" on Side 2, but I always figure I might not have cleaned the vinyl well enough, so I'll keep an eye on it and update if needed. As for the music, this is exactly why I bought the album... Electric! It's a dynamic, engaging, and thought-provoking collection. Their sound is polished and refined, yet the vocals have this raw, unfiltered edge. Gorgeous! I'd definitely recommend it!

Amazing album. The sound quality is superb and both the vinyl disc and the artwork are beautifully crafted. It plays smoothly and comes with a lovely record sleeve.

  • Muddled but Listenable

To my ears, it's a bit more muddled compared to Half The City, with some noticeable surface noise but it's not all that bad. Still pretty good for a listen.
