Product description

Dive into the groundbreaking world of electronic music with Skrillex's "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites," a seminal EP that redefined the genre and catapulted the artist to global stardom. Released on December 21, 2010, this nine-track masterpiece was crafted in Skrillex's apartment using just a laptop, showcasing the raw talent and innovative spirit that would come to define his career.

The EP is a thrilling journey through the landscapes of dubstep, EDM, electro, and electronic music, featuring a blend of high-energy tracks and collaborative efforts. Standout features include "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites," the title track that became an anthem for the genre, and "Kill EVERYBODY," a relentless banger that showcases Skrillex's signature sound. The EP also includes notable collaborations with Pennybirdrabbit, Foreign Beggars, Bare Noize, and Zedd, adding depth and variety to the listening experience.

"Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" is not just an album; it's a testament to Skrillex's ability to push boundaries and create music that resonates with fans worldwide. From the intense energy of "Weekends!!!" featuring Sirah to the more introspective moments like "With You, Friends (Long Drive)," this EP offers a diverse range of sounds that keep listeners engaged from start to finish. The remixes included on the EP, such as the Noisia and Zedd remixes of "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites," provide fresh perspectives on the original tracks, making this a must-listen for fans of electronic music.

This 2012 Limited Edition Reissue LP is pressed on 180g vinyl.

  • Mind-Blowing Aphex Twin Influence

    5 out of 5 stars
    empxaputifJanuary 14, 2026United States🇺🇸

The level of detail on this album is absolutely mind-blowing. This is where the Aphex Twin inspiration really shines through, with a massive noise influence as well. He just combines all these styles in such a crazy way, incredibly complex and futuristic as hell. Favorite tracks: scatta, rock and roll. Least favorite: all i ask of you, the title track.

  • Second-Hand Gem Sounds Great

For those checking this out in 2023 or later, just a heads up that I grabbed a second-hand version and it's fantastic. The songs are, as you'd expect, amazing. And yes, it "sounds" pretty darn good too.

Wow, it's hilarious to see all these glowing reviews. This EP still holds up today and sounds incredible on vinyl. It's the ultimate mix.

  • Skrillex's Genre-Defining EP

    4 out of 5 stars
    UmsderadbiiMarch 17, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

Folks often dislike Skrillex because he almost single-handedly took dubstep and EDM from the underground and brought it to mainstream radio and clubs. He made 'bass drop' a familiar phrase among Hot Topic teens, and his DJ sets feel more like rock concerts than raves (thanks mostly to his past with FFTL). I can't support the commercialization and imitation that followed him, but I can appreciate this fantastic EP. By now, dubstep has been permanently divided, with people strongly criticizing either the womp-womp 'fidget' style Skrillex made popular, or saying that the original dubstep sound is weak or whatever. I stand right in the middle, enjoying Skream and Benga as much as Skrillex and Nero. They're different interpretations of the same sound; dubstep seen through different creative perspectives. I'll fully admit that as I write this (2012) Skrillex has overstayed his welcome, and he hasn't yet released a full-length album to establish himself as a lasting force in electronic music. Furthermore, Bangarang was a disappointing repeat of the sound he perfected here. All things considered, this EP should go down in electronic music history as a genre-defining moment, because this is when his remix talent and the style he started with on My Name Is Skrillex became fully developed. "Rock n Roll" is a wicked way to start with its crossover rock/rave sound. "Scary Monsters" is a great brostep anthem by any standards with a signature hook and the now-classic "Oh My God!!" sample. Things get a bit cheesy with "Kill Everybody," which isn't a great track, but a passable progressive electro jam (it's worth noting that Bare Noize's remix at the end gives it some much-needed energy). "All I Ask" shows his potential as a melodic producer and songwriter, and "Scatta" adds some gritty hip hop into the mix. "With You Friends (Long Drive)" improves on the original, closing the EP on a mellow and uplifting note that in some respects doesn't fit with the album's overall tone, but serves as another example of his diversity as a producer. The remixes at the end provide some okay variations on the themes established earlier on (Noisia's treatment of "Scary Monsters" nicely dirties-up an already hard-hitting track). Ultimately I kind of wish he'd bundled My Name Is Skrillex with this release to make a compilation/full-album of his early material, because both EPs contain some great tracks and not-so-great remixes that could have been left out. I'm sure people will strongly disagree that this is a worthwhile release, but its impact on dubstep and EDM as a whole can't be ignored. It's destined to be a "remember when?" kind of album, a throwback to a transitional period in electronic dance music that some may recall with disdain, but that shouldn't be forgotten.

man, the intricate work put into this lp is absolutely mind-blowing. you can really see where aphex twin's impact shines through, with a massive noise influence as well. he just merges all these styles together in such a crazy way, super complex and futuristic as fuck. fav tracks: scatta, rock and roll. least fav: all i ask of you, the title track.
