Product description

Rohan de Saram's self-titled album, released in 2009 under the Edition zeitklang label, is a captivating exploration of contemporary chamber music, showcasing the extraordinary talent of this renowned cellist. Spanning a duration of 1 hour and 14 minutes, the album is a testament to de Saram's versatility and mastery of his instrument, featuring a diverse range of compositions that highlight his technical prowess and expressive depth.

The album opens with Luciano Berio's "Sequenza XIV für Violoncello," a challenging and innovative piece that immediately sets the tone for the rest of the collection. Throughout the album, de Saram navigates a variety of styles and techniques, from the intricate and rhythmic "Solipse für Cello und Zeitverzögerung" to the meditative and introspective "Sonata per violoncello" by Morton Feldman. Each track offers a unique listening experience, demonstrating de Saram's ability to bring out the nuances and complexities of each composition.

In addition to his solo performances, de Saram collaborates with other esteemed musicians, such as Marc Sabat and Aki Takahashi, on pieces like "Trio" and "Pulsation VII für Violoncello und Elektronik." These collaborations add a dynamic layer to the album, showcasing the interplay between different instruments and the seamless blend of acoustic and electronic elements.

Rohan de Saram's album is not just a collection of performances but a journey through the world of contemporary classical music. His interpretations of both well-known and lesser-known works are marked by a deep understanding of the music and a commitment to artistic excellence. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience that highlights the beauty and innovation of contemporary chamber music.
