This album is a hidden gem and the pressing is absolutely fantastic! Optimal really outdid themselves this time: the vinyl is incredibly quiet, perfectly flat, and has amazing dynamics—plus, it comes with a poly sleeve. It's got that rich, full Spector sound that complements John's arrangements beautifully. Now, this album might be a bit divisive in John's catalog, and if rock 'n' roll isn't your cup of tea, it might not be your top pick, but it's super relaxed, fun, and rocks hard. John's wild mid-'70s phase, when he was pals with Harry Nilsson, was some of his most musically intriguing work, and you can hear that here. If you're into Lennon and early rock 'n' roll, give this album a shot. The Optimal pressing is top-notch and totally worth it.
Out of all the tracks John Lennon had to put down, "You Can't Catch Me" stands out as my top pick on ROCK N' ROLL. The album's sound often comes across as a bit of a chaotic jumble, with too much going on, but you can tell Lennon's enjoying himself. This particular copy is alright, though certainly not exceptional. I reckon it's more about the production quality. Lennon took the reins on some tracks, while Phil Spector tackled the rest, but either way, a lot of the songs end up sounding all mixed up...muddy...hard to make out. My version has a bit of light surface noise kicking off each side, plus a few spots with some faint hissing here and there.
It's John Lennon belting out timeless tunes, it's great. The production feels very dated and a tad warped.

this is a pretty strange pressing. It kinda sounds like a fairly good radio broadcast. The sound quality is alright, but it's not very spacious. Still, i'd say it's worth giving a listen.
