Product description

Billy Joel's twelfth studio album, River of Dreams, marked a significant shift in tone for the American singer-songwriter. Released on 10 August 1993 by Columbia Records, this soft rock masterpiece presents a more serious and introspective side of Joel, delving into themes of trust, long-lasting love, and betrayal. The album's 10 tracks, including the hit title single 'The River of Dreams', showcase Joel's storytelling ability and musical prowess, with contributions from Mark Rivera on saxophone, flute, and vocals.

With a duration of 49 minutes, River of Dreams is a thought-provoking and emotionally charged listen, featuring standout tracks like 'No Man's Land', 'The Great Wall of China', and 'All About Soul'. The album's release was followed by a successful concert tour, which ran from 1993 to 1995 and cemented Joel's reputation as a talented performer. River of Dreams has become one of Billy Joel's most beloved and enduring works, and its exploration of complex emotions and relationships continues to resonate with fans to this day.

This is a 2025 Reissue released as a LP.

  • 90s Production, Enjoyable Reissue

    3 out of 5 stars
    Wigc_ShaxAugust 24, 2025United States🇺🇸

This reissue isn't as terrible as the overly dramatic folks in these reviews are making it out to be. "Oh, I couldn't last more than 30 seconds, it's hurting my ears," give me a break. With my setup (Rega P10, Apheta 3 cartridge, Acoustic Energy 520s), I'm not picking up any harshness at all. And I'm blasting it! It is a bit squashed and "loud," but that's just 90s production for you. If you're looking for it to sound like a Chicago album from the 70s, you'll need to hope for a remix. I don't find it lacking in energy, I just think you need to crank up the volume. It's not a dynamic masterpiece but it's certainly more than decent and I'm enjoying the tracks. That said, "Two Thousand Years" sounds quite dynamic and I'd say the songs on side two are much better, as they have less cluttered production than some of the tracks on side one. I've just finished my second spin of this record and loved every minute of it. Also, the pressing is perfect with a silent noise floor and no surface noise or defects.

  • Nostalgic 90s Album Holds Up

    4 out of 5 stars
    Dvpul_RcormAugust 5, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

Being a 90s album, you kinda know it won't sound as fantastic as, let's say, The Stranger, but honestly, even with my high standards, it's not as terrible as some people make it out to be. It's pretty much what I thought it would be. This might be as good as it gets unless there's a complete remastered version.

  • 90s Re-release Disappointment

    2 out of 5 stars
    joxzie766July 22, 2025United States🇺🇸

Just like all the re-releases from the 90's, it's kinda blah. Arrived all bent up, same as every new record these days. Still, I'm stoked to finally have this classic on vinyl to round out my Billy Joel collection. You'd hope that these letdown re-pressings would start hurting vinyl sales, but who knows?

  • Terrible Pressing, Awful Sound Quality

    1 out of 5 stars
    jtmdesidf71403499July 20, 2025United States🇺🇸

This pressing is truly awful. I'm extremely let down. The high end is flooded with sibilance, it's just too much. It's particularly noticeable during "The Great Wall Of China." It's astonishingly poor. Honestly, it sounds better on my CD, and even when I play it off of YouTube. I'd bet they used a 320 kbps mp3 to press this vinyl, it sounds like they did. I also want to mention that the vinyl I got from Amazon is all scuffed up. It's not deep enough to be called a scratch, but it honestly looks like the scuffing is under the grooves, which doesn't make any sense. It's the strangest scuff marks I've ever seen. Another terrible pressing from Sony.

  • Satisfactory Pressing, Awaiting Better

    5 out of 5 stars
    04hiwfJuly 16, 2025United States🇺🇸

This pressing is quite good, with no surface noise or significant audio issues. While listening, I found myself hoping for a bit more dynamism or a wider soundstage. It comes across as a tad flat and compressed to my ears, but it should still please anyone looking to add this to their collection or who's a fan of the album. It's packaged in a single sleeve and features the red Columbia Records label (no custom artwork like some earlier releases). For now, it's satisfactory, but I'm holding out hope for a future release that does justice to the album in both packaging and sound quality.
