Product description

Dive into the raw, gritty world of Queens of the Stone Age with their self-titled debut album, released on September 22, 1998. This seminal work is a cornerstone of the stoner rock and alternative rock genres, showcasing the band's unique blend of heavy riffs, hypnotic rhythms, and Josh Homme's distinctive vocals. Recorded with Homme handling nearly all instruments except drums, which were masterfully played by former Kyuss member Alfredo Hernández, the album is a testament to the band's early creative prowess.

The album's fourteen tracks, including standouts like "Regular John," "Avon," and "Walkin' on the Sidewalks," offer a dream-like, mysterious vibe that sets it apart in the band's discography. The lyrics are as intriguing as the music, with titles like "You Can't Quit Me Baby" and "These Aren't the Droids You're Looking For" hinting at a world of dark humor and surreal imagery. The album's duration of one hour ensures a comprehensive journey through the band's early sound, making it a compelling listen from start to finish.

Released under the Matador label, this debut album has been praised for its innovative approach and has remained a favorite among fans and critics alike. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer to Queens of the Stone Age, this album is a vital piece of their musical legacy, offering a glimpse into the band's formative years and the raw energy that would define their future work.

This 2024 Reissue Remastered 2LP set is housed in a gatefold.

  • Pre-Order Black & Orange

    5 out of 5 stars
    outtdtzazefDecember 5, 2025United States🇺🇸

Just a heads up, this is coming out in black and orange and you can pre-order it right now on the QOTSA website. I'm really glad I didn't buy an earlier version. The prices are about to drop significantly...

  • Disappointing Weak Pressing

    2 out of 5 stars
    sjuohdithiwNovember 20, 2025United States🇺🇸

This pressing is weak and lacks power, really disappointing for an album that should hit hard. There's barely any bass and the drums feel light. I wasn't a huge fan of the 2011 Rekords version, but it's way better than this one.

  • Brightness Overload, Disappointing

    3 out of 5 stars
    GogiwrouslilOctober 22, 2025United States🇺🇸

Way too much brightness here, and some sibilance issues too. Never had this problem with my ATVM95ML, so it's gotta be a mastering thing. It's detailed, but not very dynamic, which is how the record is, but I reckon the treble is a bit too much for this album. Also, I'm not a fan of the artwork. I'm a tad disappointed, truth be told, but apart from that, this album is pretty straightforward and if you're in the mood for it, you'll enjoy it for what it is.

  • Worth the Splurge

    5 out of 5 stars
    hamposzuksaswiOctober 17, 2025United States🇺🇸

Wow, I splurged on this album for $60 when prices were skyrocketing, and it felt worth it back then. For the sake of having a good time, I really wish it would get reissued soon, because the sound quality is top-notch, maybe even the best. It's got that 'in-your-face' bliss that it was meant to have.

  • Great Album

    1 out of 5 stars
    rkffuyhziwgOctober 14, 2025United States🇺🇸

When I got it, I assumed it was the real deal, but it turned out to be blank. I've attempted every cleaning trick I know, but nothing's worked. My system usually does a great job of masking surface noise, but with this record, there's a ton of pops even at full volume. I've never experienced this before, so I'm pretty sure I ended up with a faulty copy or a crappy bootleg. I've ordered a new pressing from Matador on Amazon. Hope it works out this time.Setup - Rega P2 w/ Ortofon Bronze/ 4mm spacer/ leather slipmat, Rega Elex-R, Paradigm Founders 100F.
