Has anyone else noticed the completely bonkers distortion on side D? Side C's not much better, but D's just a complete disaster on my copy.
Honestly, when you really think about it, it's such a chaotic blend, right? You've got jazz, hip hop, drill n bass, creepy movie scores, offbeat vibes, and even bossa nova all thrown together in this non-stop gloomy yet intense journey. I kinda get why Tobin decided to "move on" from all this (even though I'm not a huge fan of his stuff after ISAM); but it's such a one-of-a-kind mess that you just can't look away. Maybe it's a bit immature, but damn, it's still powerful 22 years later.
Absolutely, this is a truly grand adventure in the future of jazz and drum-n-bass tech. Its d-n-b parts are like drums on steroids, yet with that unique artistic flair. The jazz moments are just as soothing and energizing as jazz should be. Amon Tobin is a trailblazer in drum-n-bass experimentation and flaunts his innovative status masterfully on this album. When this was released, drum-n-bass was in a bit of a slump, and Amon proved there's always hope. My all-time fave and a key track in my techno collection is Nightlife. Those horn samples? Unforgettable, they'll etch themselves into your mind forever. Give it a spin, play it on repeat!

Shadowy, oddball, threatening, groovy, and evil are just a few terms that might capture this album's essence, but honestly, the best move is to just grab it. Mr. Tobin truly stands in a league of his own.
