Booker Little - Out Front (LP)

"Out Front" is a seminal 1961 jazz album by the brilliant trumpeter and composer Booker Little, released under the Candid label. This album is a testament to Little's extraordinary talent, showcasing his precise, dramatic, and lyrical playing, as well as his innovative compositions. Recorded in the spring of 1961 at the Nola Penthouse Sound Studios in New York City, the album features a stellar lineup including Julian Priester on trombone, Eric Dolphy on alto sax, bass clarinet, and flute, and Don Friedman on piano.

"Out Front" is widely regarded as Booker Little's magnum opus, blending hard bop, free jazz, and bebop into a cohesive and timeless sound. The album's slow, deliberate tempos allow Little's gorgeous tone to shine, making it a standout in his discography.
