Robert Ludwig did a fantastic job mastering this at Sterling. It sounds absolutely stunning! The instruments are so clear and distinct.
Since its launch all those years ago, ODESSA has typically been seen as the Bee Gees' early pinnacle, a rich, expansive double album that first hit shelves in the early part of 1969. It's definitely varied and daring, with side two showcasing the album's wide-ranging nature. "Marley Purt Drive" has a hint of country to it, "Edison" is drenched in a light psychedelic sheen, and "Melody Fair" is truly stunning, a baroque pop triumph. "Suddenly" nearly has a jazzy feel, featuring a prominent oboe, and "Whisper Whisper" leans into rock & roll, with a bold, brassy setup. This 1969 pressing delivers solid performance from start to finish, with a wide, multi-layered soundscape. My copy plays smoothly and clearly, with occasional faint surface noise.
Haven't given this site the time it deserves lately, so just backing up what's been said - KPG did an amazing job with the cut, it's flat, has a stunning flocked outer sleeve, and the vinyl is super quiet... Plus, it's an overlooked gem from late-60s pop. A fantastic addition to my collection, and it completely outshines a beat-up dollar bin version I've been playing for years.
Robert Ludwig's mastering at Sterling is simply stunning! The sound is incredible, with a fantastic clarity that really brings out each instrument.
The UK 1st press offers a quieter vinyl experience with fantastic sound quality. It packs more bass than the initial ATCO US pressing.
