Among Pat Metheny's vast collection of work, spanning fusion, traditional jazz, Brazilian, and experimental genres, this fourth studio album is somewhat of a skip, in my view. Metheny handles all guitar parts, multitracking the bass (which is rather mediocre) and other stringed instruments. The compositions are decent, and his playing is thoughtful, but after the incredible burst of energy and creativity that was "Pat Metheny Group" [The White Album], this one feels a bit disappointing. That said, if you're a fan of early '70s Ralph Towner, you might really appreciate this. ProTip: The three most gorgeous tracks are on side B, so start there and make your way to side A for a more pleasant listen. 3 stars.
Awesome album for a scorching, bright day :) Golden.
