Product description

Emil Gilels, a name synonymous with virtuosity and depth in the world of classical piano, delivers a captivating performance in this live album recorded on October 10, 1993. The album features two iconic piano concertos: Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major, K. 467, and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Major, Op. 44. Accompanied by the USSR Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Kirill Kondrashin, Gilels showcases his extraordinary technical prowess and interpretive sensitivity.

Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21, often associated with the film "Elvira Madigan," is a masterpiece of clarity and elegance. Gilels' rendition brings out the concerto's lyrical beauty and structural perfection, making it a highlight of the album. The second half features Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 2, a work known for its dramatic intensity and emotional depth. Gilels' performance is nothing short of electrifying, capturing the concerto's fiery passion and tender melancholy.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 3 minutes, this album is a testament to Gilels' artistry and the enduring appeal of these classical masterpieces. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this live recording offers a compelling and immersive listening experience. The combination of Gilels' masterful playing, Kondrashin's insightful conducting, and the USSR Symphony Orchestra's rich sound creates a performance that is both powerful and nuanced.
