Product description

Emil Gilels, a name synonymous with virtuosity and profound musical insight, delivers a captivating recital in "Emil Gilels: The Seattle Recital." Released on August 19, 2016, under the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label, this album is a testament to Gilels' mastery of the classical piano repertoire. Spanning a diverse range of compositions, the album offers a rich and engaging exploration of the piano's expressive capabilities.

The recital opens with Beethoven's monumental "Piano Sonata No. 21 in C Major, Op. 53," known as the "Waldstein," showcasing Gilels' technical brilliance and interpretive depth. The sonata's three movements are performed with a sense of clarity and passion that highlights the composer's innovative spirit. Following this, Gilels presents a series of variations and shorter pieces, including "Variations on 'Là ci darem la mano,' Op. 2" and "Piano Sonata No. 3 in A Minor, Op. 28," demonstrating his versatility and musical sensitivity.

The second half of the album features works by French composers, including Debussy's "Images I" and Ravel's "Miroirs," as well as Prokofiev's "Visions fugitives, Op. 22." These pieces are performed with a delicate touch and nuanced phrasing, revealing Gilels' ability to convey the subtle emotions and intricate details of each composition. The recital concludes with Stravinsky's "3 Movements from Petrushka, K12" and a hauntingly beautiful arrangement of Bach's "Prelude in E Minor, BWV 855/I," arranged by Siloti for piano in B Minor.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 14 minutes, "Emil Gilels: The Seattle Recital" is a compelling journey through the classical piano repertoire, showcasing the artistry and musicality of one of the 20th century's most celebrated pianists. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rewarding and enriching listening experience.
