Having stumbled upon this page, you're likely already acquainted with Jim Hall, so I'll skip the introductions and praise you probably know by heart. Hall stands out as one of my top jazz guitarists, thanks to his imaginative improvisation and sharp harmonic sense. I've had the privilege of seeing him perform live three times, typically in a trio setup, much like this live album. This club recording brilliantly showcases the energy and creative journeys of Jim's small groups, past and present. The sound quality is fantastic. While Jim is shown with his D'Aquisto custom, which he was famous for in his later years, I've heard this recording actually features the Gibson ES-175, which makes sense given the dark tone here. This is a fantastic album, highly recommended. If you're looking for what to pick up next, consider "Alone Together," his duo with Ron Carter. It elevates this vibe even further.
