Product description

Dive into the eclectic and soulful world of Sam Rivers with his 1990 album "Lazuli," a masterful blend of free jazz, hard bop, and avant-garde elements. Recorded over two days in October 1989 at the legendary Studio 44 in Monster, Netherlands, this album showcases Rivers' virtuosity on saxophone and flute, accompanied by the dynamic rhythm section of Darryl Thompson on electric guitar, Rael Wesley Grant on electric bass, and Steve McCraven on drums.

"Lazuli" is a testament to Rivers' innovative spirit, offering a laid-back yet intricate groove that sets it apart from his more experimental works. The album's twelve tracks, including standouts like "Swirl," "Dominant," and "Beatrice," flow seamlessly, creating a cohesive and engaging listening experience. Each composition is a testament to Rivers' compositional prowess and his ability to push the boundaries of jazz.

The album's reissue in 2015 by Solid Records as part of their Timeless Jazz Master Collection further cemented its status as a classic, making it accessible to a new generation of jazz enthusiasts. Whether you're a longtime fan of Sam Rivers or a newcomer to his music, "Lazuli" is an essential addition to any jazz collection, offering a unique and captivating journey through the mind of one of the genre's true innovators.
