Product description

Tool's magnum opus, Lateralus, is a sonic masterpiece that has left an indelible mark on the music world since its release on 15 May 2001. Released under the esteemed RCA Records Label, this iconic album is a testament to the band's innovative spirit and genre-bending prowess. Blending elements of progressive metal, alternative metal, and progressive rock, Lateralus is a rich tapestry of sound that showcases Tool's unique ability to craft complex, intricate music that is both challenging and rewarding.

Clocking in at 1 hour and 16 minutes, the album takes the listener on a journey through a diverse range of emotions and textures, from the intense, aggressive riffs of 'The Grudge' and 'Ticks & Leeches' to the more contemplative, atmospheric soundscapes of 'Parabol' and 'Parabola'. With tracks like 'Schism' and 'Lateralus' showcasing the band's technical proficiency and musical depth, it's clear that Tool is a force to be reckoned with.

Throughout the album's 13 tracks, including the haunting 'Reflection' and the enigmatic 'Faaip De Oiad', Tool's distinctive sound is on full display, with each song contributing to a cohesive, immersive listening experience. With Lateralus, Tool has created a work of art that continues to inspire and influence new generations of music fans, cementing their reputation as one of the most innovative and respected bands in the world of metal and beyond.

This 2020 Limited Edition Reissue 2LP set is pressed on Picture Disc vinyl.

  • New Disc, Old Issues

    2 out of 5 stars

Picked up this album from my neighborhood record shop, but had to swap the first one since it was all bent, super distorted, and had a bunch of floor rumble. The replacement copy works, but there's still a lot of crackles and pops for a supposedly new disc. Not ideal for high-fidelity listening. That said, the songs themselves are pretty good.

Picked up this album from my neighborhood record shop and had to swap the first one since it was bent, super distorted, and had a bunch of background noise. The replacement copy works, but there's still a lot of hiss and pops for a brand new disc. Not ideal for a high-fidelity listening session. The songs themselves are awesome, though.

  • Unplayable Vinyl Nightmare

    1 out of 5 stars
    MifiaerJanuary 1, 2026United States🇺🇸

This record is plagued by awful surface noise (extremely loud crackling and popping) on both sides. I've never encountered a vinyl this terrible, and I own quite a collection. It's practically unplayable in this condition. I'm sending it back immediately to get a replacement and see if the entire batch is affected.

  • Picture Disc Decent Quality

    5 out of 5 stars

Joining the chorus of voices here, I must admit, picture discs aren't really my thing. I grabbed this one fresh a couple of weeks back and just now got the chance to give it a full listen. As others have pointed out, it's not bad. There's no heavy rumble like you often get with picture discs, but there are a few noticeable pops and crackles, especially in the quieter parts (like at the start of each side). All in all, it's bearable, and the sound quality is pretty great otherwise. The guitar work really shines! One of my all-time favorite LPs, I'm hoping it eventually comes out on regular, clean black vinyl, but for now, this isn't as bad as you might think.

  • Unofficial, Skip This One

    2 out of 5 stars
    UpzlgDecember 7, 2025United States🇺🇸

The sound's alright if you're not lookin'. But the gatefold's a real letdown, and the records don't even have a print on 'em. Totally unofficial, steer clear of this one.
