  • 1967 vs. 1980s Reissue

    5 out of 5 stars
    ZYTJKBJanuary 7, 2026United States🇺🇸

Having only these two to compare, but they're pretty much the same. The 1967 one versus the 1980s reissue - it's like night and day. The '67 one is way better. Anyone got thoughts on the 1963 versus '67 versions? Not much info on the dead wax to figure out what's different besides the pressing quality from the various plants. What other factors come into play between those years for CBS, generally? I'm not gonna ask anyone to compare with the six eye, haha! But am I right that the same mix and plates would be used from six to two to no eye in '67? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Blues Legend's Timeless Influence

    5 out of 5 stars
    ZRcuzxaDecember 24, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

It's a real shame Robert Johnson's life was cut short before his incredible voice and guitar skills could be captured on high-quality recordings. He surely would have sounded phenomenal. This reissue does an excellent job working with the limited source material it has. Still, Johnson's musical prowess shines through despite the subpar audio quality. This album is a priceless snapshot of the birth of modern blues and rock'n'roll (just look at Eric Clapton and Keith Richards, for instance, and see who they credit as their biggest influence) and it's a must-have for everyone.

  • Delta Blues Revolution

    5 out of 5 stars
    Akez_INovember 16, 2025United States🇺🇸

Despite already owning "The Complete Robert Johnson Recordings," I felt compelled to get this album, even with all the tracks elsewhere. It's that significant! It's mind-blowing to think that it wasn't until 1961 that Johnson received his proper recognition, allowing his old recordings to captivate a new audience. What a pivotal time that was! This album left an indelible mark on blues rock musicians. It truly paved the way for some of the legendary guitarists of the 1960s. Beyond its influential story, it remains a stunning compilation of tracks. Nearly every song here has become a blues standard. Johnson emerged from obscurity, revolutionized blues music, and then left us as swiftly as he came. "King of the Delta Blues Singers" is nothing short of the 'Citizen Kane' of 20th century popular music.

  • Classic Blues Album

    4 out of 5 stars
    weniminhowNovember 5, 2025United States🇺🇸

This is an absolutely fantastic album! It's got that classic, pure analog sound. I suppose I might have hoped for a tad more, given the massive hype around it: "If your blues collection can only have one record, make it this one", and so on. Or perhaps it's just that I'm not accustomed to listening to old blues vinyls. Plus, I'm currently using a modern stereo setup. I'm certain it would sound even better with an old, mono-focused system. Maybe one day in the future.

  • Classic Blues Vinyl Delight

Wow, what an amazing record! It's got that classic, pure analog sound. I suppose I might have hoped for a tad more (there's a ton of hype around this one: "If you must own just one blues record, this is the one", and so on), or perhaps it's that I'm not accustomed to listening to old blues vinyls. Plus, I'm currently using a modern stereo setup. I bet it would sound even better with a vintage mono system. One day, for sure.
