Yeah, yeah, yeah… This is great… really great. I'm all for this Message…
At first listen, this one sounds better than the CD version. The bass is deeper and the overall sound is smoother and warmer, making it a cut above digital formats. Really pleased to have it in my collection.
This was an excellent buy, perfect for both fans and newcomers looking to delve into Ozricland. The album stands out as one of the finest works from the lineup featuring Merv and Joie, showcasing all their signature elements: stunning atmospheres, fantastic jamming, and, of course, their unique brand of strangeness. While it's not mentioned anywhere, the live rendition of Feng Shui, '...the art of walking through a forest treading on toadstools, but without breaking them...' from the ’98 edition, is still included at the end of the album (thanks Mike). My ears can't detect any differences in the sound, so I assume it hasn't been remastered. There's yet another live version of Feng Shui on the DVD, along with Jurassic Shift (in bright sunlight! At Reading!!), Pteranodon (high strangeness), and a jam at the Pongmaster's Ball. As always, they absolutely nail it on stage. To top it off, there's the official video for Vita Voom – a one-off, as it seems, an interview at Glastonbury with clips from both Vita Voom and Jurassic Shift, plus some rather aimless studio noodling. The packaging is quite cool too, with an expanded version of the original artwork and a 22-page booklet filled with pictures and the album's story – though the paper isn't hemp, like in the original. Couldn't pass it up. Well worth the money. CD 10/10 DVD 8/10
This album holds a special place in my heart. It was the first Ozric Tentacles record I ever listened to. A buddy of mine who worked at a record shop gave it to me because he knew I was really into Pink Floyd back then. He thought I might enjoy this. Well...the Ozrics have been my favorite band ever since. As soon as the first notes of Sunhair came through my speakers, I was hooked. It was nothing like I'd heard before. It was the perfect blend of traditional band and electronics for me. I still love listening to Feng Shui, Half Light in Thillai, Jurassic Shift and Pteranodon. My original copy ended up in the CD collection of a Deadhead grad student I knew in college, so I recently got the reissue of this album on Snapper Classics. It includes an excellent live version of Feng Shui.
Mine came with a boring plain sleeve instead of the cool one shown in the pics. :(
