Product description

Emil Gilels, a name synonymous with virtuosity and profound musical insight, presents a captivating collection of piano works by J.S. Bach, Robert Schumann, and Carl Maria von Weber. Released on January 1, 2003, under the Russian Compact Disc label, this album is a testament to Gilels' masterful interpretation of classical piano repertoire.

The album opens with Bach's Toccata in C Major, Op. 7, followed by a live arrangement of the iconic Toccata & Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565. Gilels' rendition of these pieces showcases his technical brilliance and deep understanding of Bach's intricate compositions. The live performances of Prelude & Fugue in D Major, BWV 532, further highlight his ability to bring historical works to life with modern sensibilities.

The second half of the album is dedicated to Schumann's Piano Sonata No. 2 in A-Flat Major, Op. 39, J. 199. Gilels' interpretation is a masterclass in musical storytelling, with each movement—Allegro moderato, Andante, Menuetto capriccioso, and Rondo—revealing new layers of emotion and complexity. His playing is both delicate and powerful, capturing the essence of Schumann's romanticism.

With a total duration of 55 minutes, this album is a concise yet comprehensive exploration of classical piano works. Gilels' artistry shines through every note, making this a compelling addition to any classical music enthusiast's collection. Whether you're a seasoned listener or new to the genre, Emil Gilels' interpretations offer a rich and rewarding listening experience.
