Jim Hall is an artist and bandleader with a lot to offer, and this trio setting showcases his talent for interpreting compositions. He excels in taking a tune and using it as a springboard for his sometimes sharp and unconventional improvisations. A few tracks feature a second guitar, overdubbed by Jim himself to add extra harmonic depth. The recording quality is excellent, with a dry and upfront sound. The drums are punchy and really stand out, while Jim's tone is impeccable, smooth, and just slightly gritty on the accented chords. Standout tracks include "Up, Up And Away", "Young One", and "It's Nice To Be With You". The pressing is decent, but there's ghosting between every track, and B2 has some clipping, possibly from the source tape. I own many Jim Hall records, and while I'm tempted to rate this a 4, it's just shy of that. 3.75 stars.

I must say, I'm astonished that I'm the first to leave a review for this treasure... I stumbled upon this album way back in the early 90's as a CD reissue. It's Jim Hall's trio, featuring bass and drums, along with his own overdubbed guitar parts, reminiscent of Bill Evans' "Conversations with Myself." Naturally, Jim Hall's skill is top-notch, no matter the era! He's the ultimate wordsmith of jazz guitar… This vinyl pressing boasts so much more depth and dynamic range than the CD. MPS truly knew how to craft outstanding recordings! 5 stars might not do it justice.
