Following the departure of several members from his orchestra, including Orestes Vilato and Adalberto Santiago, who went on to form “La Típica 73”, Barretto makes a comeback with a fresh Salsa album titled "Indestructible". Joined by vocalist Tito Allen, the 1973 release encompasses guaguancó, Salsa, and one bolero track. A few of the songs are reinterpretations of Guajira, Bolero, and Cha Cha Cha pieces, transformed into Salsa, like "Llanto de Cocodrilo" (initially performed by "Los Compadres") and "La Familia" (originally performed by "La Sonora Matancera"). "Indestructible" showcases Barretto's mastery in arrangements and orchestration, as well as the exceptional talent of his musicians, even after Adalberto Santiago's exit. With contributions from Hector Lavoe on choirs, Ray Romero on Timbales (taking over from Vilató), Roberto Rodriguez as the lead trumpet (one of the few who stayed with Barretto's orchestra), Tony Fuentes on Bongo, along with Jerry Masucci as executive producer, and engineer Fausty, this album is a standout in the Salsa genre. The track "Indestructible" is often hailed as one of the greatest Salsa songs ever, thanks to Allen’s powerful vocals, the impressive Timbales solo by Little Ray, and the impactful lyrics that speak of new beginnings, referencing the new members of Barretto's orchestra following the departure of his former colleagues, whom Barretto openly calls traitors at various points in the album's main theme. Key Tracks: “El Hijo de Obatalá” – An outstanding Conga solo by Barretto, introduced by choir members. “La Familia” – A fusion of Salsa & Guaguancó, blending two styles into one song. “Indestructible” – The album's standout track, featuring strong lyrics and an incredible Timbales solo.
