Toto's most overlooked album. Here are some of the greatest tracks on one of Toto's best sounding records. Just give a listen to St.George and the dragon, hydra or 99. The audio is amazing. The vinyl is super quiet with no hiss.
Got myself an original version on the day it dropped, plus a cassette copy for my high school ride, complete with an Alpine stereo! This CB cut is top-notch and sounds incredible on my setup. It's super dynamic with awesome resolution, deep bass, and smooth mids – not too bright at all. Running it through a Xtension 10 turntable with a Lyra Kleos MC, Parasound A21+ amp, and JC2BP preamp. Speakers are Rega RX5, and I've got Dual SVS SB2000 Subs plus a Nova II Phono preamp.
Pressing is absolutely fantastic, Chris Bellman has done it again!!!!!!!!!!!!
This album is fantastic, possibly Toto's most progressive work yet. The pressing I have is alright, I guess. It's not bad, no crackles or hissing, and it sounds pretty good at first listen. But when you play it right after a TML stamped Pitman pressing, the difference is jaw-dropping. The TML one is so much more immersive and three-dimensional. I keep this copy around to play on my old garage stereo when I'm tinkering with cars, or to show friends the gap between a decent and an outstanding pressing on my main system. For a buck, it's a steal! But if you're after the ultimate version of Hydra, hunt down a TML stamper.
I stumbled upon a practically flawless copy, and it delivers a solid sound with impressive bass, plus every instrument is distinct and clear, no muddiness here. It's got that classic 70s drum sound, but the synths? Smooth, just like all analogue synths should be. I'd definitely give this pressing a thumbs up.
