Product description

Immerse yourself in the rich and diverse musical landscape of Howard Hanson's self-conducted works with this captivating album, released on January 1, 2005, under Decca Music Group Ltd. Spanning a generous 3 hours and 8 minutes, this collection showcases Hanson's mastery of orchestral and classical genres, offering a comprehensive journey through his compositional prowess.

The album opens with the enchanting "Merry Mount Suite," a four-movement work that sets the stage for the varied musical experiences to come. Hanson's "Piano Concerto in G Major, Op. 36" is a standout, featuring four distinct movements that highlight the piano's expressive range and the orchestra's dynamic support. The "4 Orchestral Colors" provides a unique exploration of different instrumental sections, while "Mosaics" offers a series of variations on a central theme, demonstrating Hanson's skill in thematic development.

One of the album's most intriguing works is "For the First Time," a suite that includes evocative pieces like "Bells," "Deep Forest," and "Fireworks." Each movement paints a vivid musical picture, showcasing Hanson's ability to convey a wide range of emotions and atmospheres. The album also includes two of Hanson's symphonies: the "Symphony No. 1 in E minor, Op. 21 'Nordic'" and the "Symphony No. 2, Op. 30 'Romantic.'"

Throughout the album, Howard Hanson's conducting brings out the best in his compositions, offering a unique perspective on his own works. This collection is a testament to Hanson's enduring contributions to the world of classical music, making it a valuable addition to any music lover's library.
