Product description

Immerse yourself in the rich, orchestral tapestry of Howard Hanson's "Symphony No. 3/Elegy/The Lament for Beowulf," a timeless classical masterpiece released in 1991 under Decca Music Group Ltd. This album is a testament to Hanson's profound compositional prowess, blending the grandeur of a full orchestra with the haunting beauty of choral works.

The album opens with Hanson's monumental Symphony No. 3, a four-movement opus that showcases the composer's signature romantic style and intricate orchestration. Recorded in 1963 with cutting-edge technology for its time, the symphony's depth and clarity have been meticulously preserved, offering a listening experience that is both powerful and intimate.

Following the symphony, the album presents two poignant choral works: "Elegy, Op. 44," a tribute to the renowned conductor Serge Koussevitzky, and "The Lament for Beowulf," a dramatic retelling of the ancient Anglo-Saxon epic. The Eastman-Rochester Orchestra and Chorus, under Hanson's baton, deliver a performance that is both technically impressive and deeply moving.

With a total runtime of just over an hour, this album is a comprehensive exploration of Hanson's later works, highlighting his ability to evoke a wide range of emotions through music. Whether you're a seasoned classical enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a captivating journey into the world of Howard Hanson, one of America's most distinguished composers.
