Product description

Immerse yourself in the rich, orchestral world of Howard Hanson with his captivating album "Hanson: Symphonies Nos 1 & 2 and Song of Democracy." Released in 2017 under the Mangora Classical label, this classical masterpiece is a testament to Hanson's enduring legacy in the realm of orchestral composition.

The album features two of Hanson's most celebrated symphonies, the Symphony No. 1 in E Minor, Op. 21 "Nordic" and the Symphony No. 2 in D-Flat Major, Op. 30 "Romantic," along with his evocative "Song of Democracy, Op. 44." Each piece is performed with precision and passion by the Eastman-Rochester Orchestra and the Eastman Rochester School of Music Chorus, conducted by Howard Hanson himself.

The Symphony No. 1, with its powerful and dramatic opening movement, transports you to the rugged landscapes of the Nordic regions, while the second movement's tender melody offers a moment of respite. The third movement, with its fiery energy, brings the symphony to a thrilling conclusion.

The Symphony No. 2, on the other hand, is a romantic journey through lush harmonies and soaring melodies. The first movement's adagio introduction sets the stage for a sweeping allegro moderato, while the second movement's andante con tenerezza is a heartfelt ode to love. The final movement, with its allegro con brio, is a triumphant celebration of life.

The album concludes with "Song of Democracy," a stirring choral work that showcases Hanson's ability to blend orchestral and vocal elements into a cohesive and powerful whole. This piece, with its patriotic themes and uplifting melodies, is a fitting finale to an album that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

With a total runtime of just over an hour, this album is a perfect introduction to the world of Howard Hanson and his contributions to classical music. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Hanson: Symphonies Nos 1 & 2 and Song of Democracy" is an album that you won't want to miss.
