Product description

Arcade Fire's debut studio album, Funeral, is a poignant and emotionally charged masterpiece that has left an indelible mark on the indie rock landscape. Released on 14 September 2004 by Merge Records, this seminal work was crafted during a tumultuous period in the band's history, with preliminary recordings taking place at the Hotel2Tango in Montreal, Quebec, in August 2003. The album's themes of death, change, and loss are deeply personal, with the band members having experienced a series of bereavements in the years leading up to its creation.

Fronted by the husband-and-wife team of Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, Arcade Fire's emotional debut is a sweeping and cinematic soundscape that draws upon the band's unique blend of indie rock and baroque pop sensibilities. With its analogue recording format and heartfelt lyrics, Funeral is an album that resonates deeply with listeners, inviting them to immerse themselves in its soaring melodies and introspective storytelling.

From the opening notes of 'Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)' to the rousing crescendo of 'Wake Up', Funeral is a journey through the full spectrum of human emotion, with each track offering a nuanced and deeply felt exploration of love, loss, and redemption. With its release, Arcade Fire announced themselves as a major force in the world of indie rock, and Funeral remains a beloved and influential classic to this day.

This is a 2025 Reissue released as a LP.

  • Poor Quality Pressing

    1 out of 5 stars

Terrible mastering / pressing. It doesn't do this album any favors. Grab a Merge pressing and you'll be much happier!

  • Dynamic Sound, Minor Pressing Flaws

    4 out of 5 stars
    dewemafkuchaNovember 12, 2025United States🇺🇸

The quality of the pressing is just okay, and while the record isn't scratched, there are still some minor cracks and pops throughout. It plays back without any distortion, though. I've added it to my list to clean it multiple times, hoping that might help improve it. The sound is fantastic—really dynamic with a great soundstage and lots of detail. The cover art is also very nice. I love this album and enjoy listening to it often. It definitely deserves a better vinyl pressing, but the flaws aren't too bothersome. I'd still recommend it. • Vinyl Disappoints on Great Album

It's an amazing album, but the vinyl's sound is surprisingly dull.

  • Disappointing Noisy Album

    3 out of 5 stars
    TomgawsuSeptember 30, 2025United States🇺🇸

To be truthful, a bit let down here. I've got a couple of albums from this era, and they sound way better than this one. It's pretty noisy with a bunch of crackles and pops. I gave it a brush clean, but perhaps it needs a deeper clean. Either way, pretty disappointed. I reckon the sound is alright overall, but it doesn't do this fantastic album justice. 3/5

  • Disappointing Album Pressing

    4 out of 5 stars
    irdjoqiqeSeptember 10, 2025United States🇺🇸

Such a fantastic album, but this pressing is a real letdown! Sounds so flat, missing that punch, way too squashed. I'm no expert, but this is disappointing. Lesson learned: check reviews before buying!
