Product description

Dive into the captivating world of contemporary classical music with Franck Bedrossian's "Epigram," a monumental work that has left an indelible mark on the musical landscape of this decade. This album, released on November 1, 2019, under the KAIROS label, showcases Bedrossian's versatility and mastery as a composer, featuring a diverse range of compositions that span orchestral, chamber, and electronic genres.

At the heart of the album is the titular "Epigram," a cycle of five poems by Emily Dickinson set for soprano and ensemble. This work, dedicated to various individuals who have inspired Bedrossian, is a testament to his unique approach to setting text, focusing on the stark and often unsettling imagery of Dickinson's poetry. The cycle is performed by the renowned Klangforum Wien, with Donatienne Michel-Dansac delivering a powerful vocal performance under the direction of Emilio Pomárico.

In addition to "Epigram," the album features two other significant works by Bedrossian. "Twist," composed in 2016, is a collaboration with IRCAM - Centre Pompidou, showcasing Bedrossian's innovative use of electronics in conjunction with a full orchestra. "Edges," composed in 2010, offers a glimpse into Bedrossian's chamber music compositions, featuring a duet for piano and percussion.

Franck Bedrossian, a native of Paris, studied with some of the most influential composers of our time, including Allain Gaussin, Gérard Grisey, Tristan Murail, and Philippe Manoury. His music is known for its dramatic intensity and physical impact, pushing the boundaries of contemporary classical music.

The album is a testament to Bedrossian's artistic journey, from his early studies in Paris to his time teaching at the University of Berkeley. It is a collection of works that reflect his unique voice and his contributions to the world of contemporary classical music. Whether you're a seasoned fan of contemporary classical music or a newcomer to the genre, "Epigram" offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.
