Product description

"Foss: Paradigm / Hiller: Algorithms I, Version I & IV / Schwartz: Signals" is a groundbreaking avant-garde album released in 1970 by the innovative composer and conductor Lukas Foss. This album is a testament to Foss's experimental approach to music, blending classical and electronic elements to create a unique and captivating listening experience.

The album features three distinct works: "Paradigm" by Lukas Foss, "Algorithms I" in both Version I and IV by Lejaren Hiller, and "Signals" by Elliott Schwartz. "Paradigm" is a four-movement suite that explores themes of communication and understanding, with an unnerving yet intriguing melody that opens the record. Hiller's "Algorithms I" delves into the world of computer-generated music, showcasing the potential of algorithms in composition. The two versions presented here offer a fascinating comparison of the evolution of this pioneering work. "Signals" by Elliott Schwartz adds another layer of complexity, with its intricate and thought-provoking musical structures.

Performed by a stellar ensemble of musicians, including Kirkbride, Haupt, Verberne, Ritscher, Williams, Bell, Collura, Kotík, and Reynard, the album is a collaborative effort that highlights the talents of each contributor. The combination of electronic and classical elements, along with the innovative compositions, makes this album a standout in the avant-garde genre.

With a runtime of 46 minutes, this album is a journey through the avant-garde landscape, offering a rich and rewarding experience for those willing to explore its depths. Released under the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label, "Foss: Paradigm / Hiller: Algorithms I, Version I & IV / Schwartz: Signals" is a landmark recording that continues to influence and inspire musicians and listeners alike.
