Product description

Bill Frisell's "East/West" is a captivating double album that marks a significant milestone in the guitarist's discography. Released on August 9, 2005, via Nonesuch/Warner Records, this live album is Frisell's 18th studio release and his first double CD. Spanning a generous 1 hour and 54 minutes, the album is a testament to Frisell's versatility and mastery of jazz, jazz fusion, and free jazz.

"East/West" features two distinct sets, each showcasing a different trio lineup with the remarkable Kenny Wollesen on drums. The "West" disc captures a live performance recorded direct to 2-track by Claudia Engelhart, edited by Jon Evans and Lee Townsend at San Pablo Recorders in Berkeley, CA. This disc highlights Frisell's improvisational skills and the dynamic interplay within his trio, featuring Tony Scherr on bass.

The album's tracklist is a blend of covers and originals, including iconic songs like "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall," and "Goodnight Irene," alongside Frisell's own compositions like "Blues for Los Angeles" and "The Vanguard." Each track is a showcase of Frisell's unique guitar style, characterized by its lyrical melodies and intricate textures.

"East/West" is a powerful addition to Bill Frisell's extensive catalog, offering fans and newcomers alike a rich and engaging listening experience. The album's live energy and Frisell's virtuosic playing make it a standout release in his career.
