Product description

Pulp's "Different Class" is a seminal work that marked the band's ascent to mainstream success in 1995, right at the zenith of the Britpop movement. This fifth studio album, released on October 30, 1995, via Universal-Island Records Ltd., is a compelling exploration of social class, sex, and the British cultural landscape of the time. With a runtime of just over 52 minutes, "Different Class" features 12 tracks that blend synth-pop theatrics with sharp, witty lyricism, making it a standout record of the era.

The album's title, inspired by frontman Jarvis Cocker, carries a double meaning that reflects the band's unique perspective on society. Tracks like "Common People" and "Disco 2000" became anthems of the time, capturing the spirit of the Britpop scene and resonating with a wide audience. "Different Class" debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and went on to win the prestigious Mercury Music Prize in 1996, solidifying Pulp's place in the annals of British music history.

The album's themes of class division, illegal raves, and uncertain futures remain relevant, offering a timeless commentary on society. Pulp's ability to balance their newfound celebrity with poise and talent is evident throughout "Different Class," making it a enduring classic. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer to Pulp's discography, "Different Class" is an essential listen that showcases the band's unique voice and musical prowess.

This is a 2025 Reissue released as a LP.

  • Disappointing Vinyl Quality

    vjjvomujzJanuary 4, 2026United Kingdom🇬🇧

I must say, I was truly let down: one of my all-time favorite albums ever sounds awful on vinyl (4785288 from 2016). Now that I've checked out the other reviews, I get the picture.

  • Versión islandesa recomendada

    MuxfutehusohuDecember 29, 2025United States🇺🇸

Suena bastante bien, no hace ruidos ni se traba, no entiendo por qué se quejan tanto los tontos, había escuchado otra edición también islandesa y no se escuchaba bien, por eso no me lo había comprado, si no lo tienen recomiendo comprarse esta versión

  • 1995 Pressing: Worth It!

    5 out of 5 stars
    PemkdDecember 27, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

I previously wrote a review for this fantastic pressing quite some time ago, but I must have deleted it by mistake or perhaps Discogs did. Regardless, judging by the matrix numbers, it appears this was cut by a guy who prioritized using the earliest generation masters possible and had strong opinions about digital transfers when analogue tape was still an option: https://www.analogplanet.com/content/whos-cutting-those-lacquers-part-1-0. That being said, since this was produced in 1995 and not 1975, we can probably assume the recording and mix were done digitally. However, this does debunk the claim made by another user a few posts down that it was "cut from CD" without any evidence. I haven't had the chance to listen to a 1995 original, but I purchased this version 20 years ago and it's always sounded great, even on the not-so-great setup in my student bedroom. On a proper system, it's absolutely stunning. You've got to crank up the volume, but there's minimal surface noise, so that's not an issue. Perhaps the 2025 reissue has surpassed this one - I haven't heard it - but if you come across a 2004 cut at a reasonable price, it's definitely worth it!

  • Common People Incredible

got a good one i guess. this copy sounds amazing. common people is just incredible. wow wow wow

  • Best Vinyl Sound Quality

    5 out of 5 stars
    rukjlegjexbyehcDecember 23, 2025United States🇺🇸

Among the three vinyl versions of this album I've owned, this one boasts the finest audio quality. The original release has a strangely mixed sound, while the standard pressings come across as compressed and lifeless. For those who value sound quality, this is the one to choose.
