Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of David Diamond's "Diamond: Symphony No. 1, Violin Concerto No. 2 & The Enormous Room," a 2003 release on the Naxos label. This album is a testament to Diamond's compositional prowess, featuring three significant works that showcase his unique voice in the classical music landscape.

The album opens with Diamond's Symphony No. 1, a powerful and energetic piece that marked his return from studying in Paris with the renowned Nadia Boulanger. The symphony's driving rhythms and robust orchestration are reminiscent of the French composer Albert Roussel, offering a compelling start to the album.

Following the symphony, the album presents the Violin Concerto No. 2, a work that highlights Diamond's ability to craft intimate and lyrical melodies. The concerto's three movements, performed exquisitely by violinist Ilkka Talvi and the Seattle Symphony under the baton of Gerard Schwarz, provide a stark contrast to the symphony's grandeur, showcasing Diamond's versatility as a composer.

The album concludes with "The Enormous Room," a piece that adds a touch of intrigue and depth to the collection. This work, along with the symphony and concerto, offers a comprehensive overview of Diamond's compositional style and his contributions to the classical music canon.

With a total runtime of just over an hour, this album is a perfect introduction to David Diamond's music, offering a blend of power, lyricism, and intrigue that is sure to captivate and engage. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is a rewarding listen that highlights the enduring appeal of Diamond's compositions.
