Product description

Immerse yourself in the intricate and evocative world of David Diamond's chamber music with "Complete String Quartets, Vol. 2." Released in 2002 on Albany Records, this album showcases the Potomac String Quartet's masterful interpretation of Diamond's String Quartets No. 2, No. 9, and No. 10. Spanning 53 minutes, the seven tracks offer a profound exploration of modern classical music, highlighting Diamond's distinctive compositional style and the quartet's technical prowess.

The album opens with the three movements of String Quartet No. 2, each marked by its unique tempo and emotional depth. The Allegro flessibile sets a lively pace, while the Adagio mesto and Allegro mesto delve into more somber and introspective territories. String Quartet No. 9 follows, providing a cohesive and compelling narrative through its single, untitled movement. The final quartet on the album, No. 10, is presented in its entirety, featuring three distinct movements that range from the energetic Allegro assai to the serene Lento and the complex Adagio-Doppia fuga.

David Diamond, a prominent figure in 20th-century American music, is known for his lyrical and harmonically rich compositions. This album is a testament to his enduring legacy and the Potomac String Quartet's commitment to performing and recording his works. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a curious newcomer, "Complete String Quartets, Vol. 2" offers a captivating journey into the heart of Diamond's musical vision.
