Product description

Deerhunter's "Cryptograms," released on January 29, 2007, through Kranky, is a mesmerizing blend of neo-psychedelic, shoegaze, dream pop, and noise rock that solidified the Atlanta-based band's unique sound. This second album from Deerhunter is a captivating journey through murky and ethereal landscapes, drawing inspiration from classic shoegaze and early Factory Records LPs.

With a runtime of 48 minutes, "Cryptograms" features 12 tracks that seamlessly weave together sporadic male and female vocals, long jamming guitar interludes, and pounding noisey bliss. The album opens with the eerie "Intro" and quickly dives into the psychedelic "Cryptograms," showcasing the band's ability to create both murky and shimmering soundscapes. Standout tracks like "White Ink," "Lake Somerset," and "Red Ink" highlight Deerhunter's knack for blending raw, ragged energy with dreamy, atmospheric textures.

"Cryptograms" is a testament to Deerhunter's experimental approach to indie rock, making it a standout release in their discography and a must-listen for fans of psychedelic and noise-infused music. The album's intricate layers and dynamic range make it a compelling listen from start to finish.

This 2LP set was released in 2007.

  • Deerhunter's Psychedelic Indie Rock

    5 out of 5 stars
    yedpbjaqayNovember 20, 2025United States🇺🇸

Ohhh. Brand new record! Indie rock with a psychedelic twist, featuring skilled male and female vocals that pop up unexpectedly, and extended guitar solos that blast out a noisy, blissful sound. There are even some peculiar ambient tracks that craft an eerie, natural atmosphere. The songs flow together seamlessly, despite their often intense nature. The music evokes the spirit of Spiritualized, with its relentless, gritty shoegaze-inspired rock. That being said, Deerhunter stay innovative and authentic, pouring heart into their music.

  • Innovative Indie Gem Despite Flaws

    5 out of 5 stars
    cihzuhweslivoyJune 30, 2025United States🇺🇸

This is an incredible record and EP combined, but the vinyl I received had a bent inner sleeve, and there's a tiny bit of repeating surface noise on Side 1 of Cryptograms. It seems to fade after the first song and is barely noticeable, so I still wholeheartedly recommend this LP. Has anyone else encountered that same issue? Deerhunter is possibly one of the most innovative and old-school sounding indie bands out there, and they spread their unique sound far and wide. Great albums, definitely recommend to any current fan and definitely newbies..

  • Clear Edition Pressing Flaw

    4 out of 5 stars
    wigjivcigcixFebruary 9, 2025United States🇺🇸

Fantastic album. However, this clear edition (at least my copy) has a pressing flaw that skips over the intro build of Spring Hall Convert, which is disappointing (it's a great build for a fantastic track). I'd go for the standard version instead.
